Originally built in the 1700's as a Sugar Plantation home Cockade House is an exquisite blend of historic architecture with modern features. In 1972 the owner of the property commissioned the renowned English theatre designer, Oliver Messel, to redesign the house. Through Oliver Messel's expert eye for opening spaces and adding to the grandeur of properties the interior of the house was reconfigured, the height of the ceilings raised, verandahs added, facades redone and a pool incorporated with a ruin/folly at the north end of the pool.

After being purchased in the 1980s a Barbadian architect added the cottage to the south west of the property based on a design left by Oliver Messel. This is now known as Oliver's Cottage. The purchase of additional land from the neighbouring Bennetts Plantation increased the property size to the 5.524 acres it accommodates today. During the years 1972 and through the 1980s Cockade House acted as host to several notable people including Pavarotti.

The present owner of Cockade House enlisted the Barbadian architect Michael Gomes to modernize the existing bathrooms and kitchen as well as build two additional cottages. The opportunity lies to refurbish Oliver's cottage to include a further bedroom and bathroom suite. The property presently consists of 7 en suite bedrooms.

Part of the land has been leased to the Cricket Academy for the use of young Barbadians while the remainder is well landscaped with mahogany trees lining the driveway and beautiful gardens. The abundant gardens provide a magical setting with lush, tropical plants.
